Fort Wayne-based musician Brent Olds began playing the electric bass when he was a teenager growing up in Indianapolis, Indiana. His first professional gig was playing in a cover band for a birthday party in 1986. He then went to college at Anderson University and studied with first call session bassist Randy Melson. When he transferred his studies to the University of Cincinnati, he went to many influential shows at Bogarts in the Clifton neighborhood. After yet another move to Fort Wayne, Indiana he became friends with Chris Wood who was the guitarist in the punk/hardcore band Forward NRG. When Forward NRG’s bass player John Mosby left to go into the Army, Brent replaced him and played several shows with the band. Around 1992 he joined funk/metal darlings The Birdmen Of Alcatraz. Later on, he moved to Bloomington, Indiana and became a member of the ska/funk/party band Johnny Socko. Olds also performed with the legendary Bloomington mod trio Steve Kowalski’s Army and was a founding member of the slacker/rap group Abstract Fresco. Later that decade, Brent toured the nation with the Chicago collective Poi Dog Pondering in support of their album “Pomegranate”. He spent the next years gigging around the Chicagoland area, playing in various rock, jazz and funk bands. In 2007, he relocated to Cincinnati, joined the hip-hop/jazz group ISWHAT?!, and began touring Europe. When he wasn’t touring, he started collaborating and jamming with ex-roommates Dan Stone and Bill Brown, this led to the formation of the AvantJazz/PostRock sounds of B-29 Superfortress. Brent also founded his beat oriented solo project .::STOCKBOY::. around 1998 and since then has been releasing recordings in his spare time. His latest release is entitled “Something In The Water”. In addition to his solo work, he currently plays with ISWHAT?!, and Gee Your Band Smells Terrific. He also is an instructor at The School of Rock Fort Wayne and works at 80/20 as a Build Operator.
